New Podcasts - July 2021

Long, hot days – and dark, twisted stories. Sounds about right for a true crime podcast fan in July, doesn’t it? Here are the 7 new true crime podcasts in July 2021 that I heard about. Each of these shows (or seasons) premiered in July and you might have missed them!

1. The Wonderland Murders & the Secret History of Hollywood

  • Show Type: Single Serial, Interview Case Analysis (?)
  • Host Type: Single Host
  • Cadence: Weekly, Ongoing
  • First Published: July 1, 2021 (?)

With a mouthful of a name, The Wonderland Murders & the Secret History of Hollywood is an Audible original – meaning you won’t find it on the other podcast players out there. In it, best-selling crime novelist Michael Connelly digs into the horrific slayings of four people in Los Angeles in 1981. With his trademark talent for storytelling, Connelly hosts the audience on a fascinating look at the seedy underbelly of the City of Angels.

Note: The Wonderland Murders & the Secret History of Hollywood is not yet in the True Crime Podcasts database but I’ll be adding it soon!

2. The Yellow Car

  • Show Type: Single Serial
  • Host Type: Single Host, Interview Case Analysis
  • Cadence: Weekly, Ongoing
  • First Published: July 7, 2021

I can only imagine how hard it is for family members of victims to come forward and be on podcasts; when they are willing and have the strength though, it makes for an incredible story. Such is the case for The Yellow Car, where the victim’s daughter helps tell the story of her mother Effie’s death – and why she believes her father was wrongly convicted for it. Personally, I’m saving this show to binge once the serial is complete.
